Results of durability tests of  Tyvek wristbands immersed in chlorine water

In our company, we conducted detailed durability tests of Tyvek wristbands that had been immersed in chlorinated water. The purpose of the tests was to check the strength of the bands , whether the presence of chlorinated water (at a concentration typical for swimming pools – 0.65%) affects the strength of the material and whether the fibers of the band were weakened or remain intact.

Course of the test

  1. Immersion: Tyvek bands were placed in 0.65% chlorine water.
  2. Immersion time: The bands were left in this mixture for 4 hours.
  3. Tearing test: After removal from the water, the ties were visually inspected and a tear test was performed to assess whether there was any weakening of the material.

Test results

  • Tearing strength: The range of breaking strength was 26 kg to 33 kg.
  • Comparison with dry wristbands: These results were comparable to tests performed on dry ties, meaning that no weakening of the tyvek fibers was observed.

 Conclusions

Tests have shown that Tyvek bands immersed in chlorine water retain their strength. The fibers of the band do not delaminate, and the adhesive does not lose its adhesive properties. The break strength remains within the limits of the standard, and the material is not weakened by chlorine. As a result, Tyvek wristbands can be successfully used in environments where they are exposed to chlorinated water, such as swimming pools.
